Santa Fe Springs, CA—February 2020 TASCAM announces a major update to its USB Audio Interface Driver, Version 4.0 for Windows. Available now as a free download, the 4.0 driver update reflects TASCAM’s firm commitment to improve driver stability and performance based on user input and technology/OS updates, while delivering an ultra-low latency solution for a streamlined workflow during recording and mixing.

The Version 4.0 driver update significantly improves latency over the previous version, now offering a selectable latency setting between 4 samples and 2048 samples versus a previous minimum buffer size of 64 samples. Selecting an ultra-low latency setting results in improved driver stability, helping prevent system crashes while eliminating start/stop lag in performance.

I am especially interested in any developments on this WX+Tascam Drivers front. I personally cannot tell what is more absurd: the fact that Windows 10 lacks any native ASIO support, or that Tascam has failed to release a new driver for Day 1 of the WX launch. The ability to set the buffer size between 4 samples and 2048 samples provides multiple performance benefits during all phases of the recording/production cycle.
Setting an ultra-low latency buffer size of 4 samples results in a negligible delay between the actual playing and hearing of audio in real time during recording. Alternatively, setting a higher sample rate (up to 2048 samples) maximizes a computer’s processing power for optimized performance during mixing.

A new HiDPI (high-dot per inch) feature automatically adjusts the viewable size of the settings panel onscreen to match a monitor’s resolution size and settings. This eliminates the need to squint or strain to read settings panel parameters that previously appeared smaller or skewed when a monitor’s resolution settings didn’t match the driver’s default resolution setting.

A new “Auto Driver Select” feature (available for US-1x2/US-2x2/US-4x4 models) enables simple activation/deactivation of the default IN/OUT audio setting for versatility in audio routing setup. Activating the Auto Driver Select feature enables the computer to automatically recognize the US-Series interface as the default for Input/Output, reducing recording session setup and configuration time. The Auto Driver Select feature can easily be disabled for customizing output settings for different devices on the computer.

The new update is compatible with a range of TASCAM audio interface units, including the US-16x08, US-4x4, US-2x2, US-1x2, iXR, and Celesonic US-20x20. Supported Windows OS versions include Windows 10 32-bit, Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 8.1 32-bit, Windows 8.1 64-bit, Windows 7 32-bit (SPI or higher), and Windows 7 64-bit (SPI or higher). Additionally, operation on the latest version of Windows 7 has been verified.
